What is affordable housing and how can it help society?

We all want to have a roof over our heads so that we have a safe place for ourselves, where we can relax and have our own privacy. Being housed, have money to spend, being able to use proper help and health care are the basics of our existence and that is agreed up on by society, as is written in the Declaration of Human Rights. So we need to up-hold that principle. But is this what is happening in society? No it isn't, there are still too many people homeless, live in poor conditions, are needy or simply cannot access the needed help. And this is a shortcoming of our society. How can affordable housing help and why is it a necessity for society to arrange for everyone?

We all want to have a roof over our heads so that we have a safe place for ourselves, where we can relax and have our own privacy. Being housed, have money to spend, being able to use proper help and health care are the basics of our existence and that is agreed up on by society, as is written in the Declaration of Human Rights. So we need to up-hold that principle. But is this what is happening in society? No it isn't, there are still too many people homeless, live in poor conditions, are needy or simply cannot access the needed help. And this is a shortcoming of our society. How can affordable housing help and why is it a necessity for society to arrange for everyone? 

Thirty percent rule Affordable housing

Having enough money to go around, means that one can pay for their mortgages and the renting prices of rooms, houses or apartments. A general rule for renting or buying a roof over one's head, is that one should spend not more then thirty percent of one's income on the cost of renting or mortgage (lit.1). This means one has enough money left to spend on other necessary things in life, such as food or doing fun things. This rule has some consequences as well. If one is below this rule then one is buying or renting in a very prude or safe way. But if one is over this rule, then one needs to save on other things with their spending.

Housing gets too expensive

The prices of buying and renting have been growing in time, but incomes haven't. And that means that the room for spending is decreasing and thus more and more people need to rent something above the stated thirty percent rule. But this also means that more people with low income, are losing the possibility to rent of buy anything. And thus the only choice they have is to sleep elsewhere, take a place at friends or family or in the worst case need to sleep in their car, or in or without a tent on the streets. So housing has become too expensive for those with low income, resulting in an explosion of homeless people or of those who are needy. It shows itself in the quantity of people using stamps for food (even those with housing) or living in the worst conditions.

Payable rooms and apartments

If people want to stay comfortable, with a roof over one's head and with enough money to have a full stomach and live in good health, then there must be a good ratio between what money is spent on. The thirty percent rule is a good way to see if you are overpaying or not, as you need to have money to buy clothes and house-hold items as well. For this you need to rent payable rooms or apartments. And this obviously needs to be provided by the society and thus society as a whole needs to make sure that everyone can rent a place and has the possibility of getting a place for themselves. And for this it is important for society to make rooms and apartments payable, anywhere on this planet. If it isn't provided then that must be seen as a shortage of living-space for those in need and thus it must be arranged.

Subsidized housing

Another method to cope with this situation is by subsidizing housing for those in need or who are homeless. And this needs to be implemented on a large scale. Too many people are suffering in poverty, living in their car or on the streets as they simply cannot pay it. So from this point of view government has a job to do, as they need to take care of everyone, not excluding anyone. By subsidizing housing and setting up cheap housing programs, also the needy and poor have the opportunity in getting a roof over one's head. And that is the primary job of our government, as it is stated so in the Declaration of Human Rights. It is the only way to make housing affordable again for everyone.

"Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control" (lit.2). And this means that society as a whole has responsibility to provide this right and thus affordable housing is a must. This article also shows that we need to provide the security in case one loses one's job, has health-problems, loses one's partner or gets old. But what we see happening instead is that the needy are being ignored, the homeless are left alone and forgotten, and no-one listens to the poor. And this tells a lot about the state of the World and why we need to change our ways. If we really want to succeed as a society, then the least we must do is to uphold the "Declaration of Human Rights" for sure. And everybody in this World has the same right as we are all the same (as we all have a heart and a brain). So we can change this World by simply following the rules stated as our general rights. Help the homeless poor and needy on our planet by giving care, help, money and help them get in touch with proper organizations so that they can get into housing as well. Everyone has the right on affordable housing as we all have agreed up on this to do so, and thus we as society need to uphold this now.

Personal versus technological development

Technological development is very much different from personal development. If technology takes over some or most thought processes, then our brain starts to get lazy. I think you can see it everywhere happening. People are attached to their mobiles, tablets, and only are interested in their social media, and don't give it much thought. It looks like people are addicted to their technical appliances and systems, and thus don't think about it anymore. The technology gives them their answers already, and thus people don't have to think about the answer anymore. From this point of view technology is getting smarter by the day, but people are going the opposite direction. So if one is addicted to technology then one can state that the user is getting less smart. But if one is using technology to stimulate thought and processes then one can develop. Sadly for most people one is lead by technology meaning more and more people are not developing. So from this argument one can state that if you want to develop yourself personally and spiritually, then you must distance yourself from the addicting technologies used in your daily life.

Influence of wars and weaponry

The more technological we get, the more advanced weaponry gets as well. And this is obvious as an immense amount of money is spent on weapons and the military. So weapons are getting smarter in time and this development might get very tricky if weaponry gets connected with artificial intelligence, especially if the AI gets the superior feeling over mankind. That situation potentially might be very dangerous indeed. Currently wars have a great impact on people as it takes away their basics of survival being safety, food and water, a roof over one's head and financial stability. And this is exactly what is happening with millions of people now, and this can happen to you as well for sure. And if people live in fear, in doubt, in anxiety then that has a big influence on how people are developing. You can safely state, the more people are fighting the more de-developed a society gets. This doesn't mean undeveloped as this means that a society hasn't had the chance to develop itself yet. But de-develop means that a society has reached a specific level of development already, but due to certain things happening in the World knowledge and advancement are draining away or disappear. More wars, more fighting and heavier weaponry leads to more stupidness. So not only technological development leads to technological addiction leading to less smart people, but also wars and fighting leads to a draining of intelligence. If in the end nuclear weapons are used against one's citizens, then this means the total drainage of knowledge and thus we are set back to the stone-age for sure.

Let's develop by disarming

Previous discussion shows you that war and weaponry will make us mindless or slow again, because we return to our primal survival mode. So if we want to thrive, be prosperous, intelligent and grow, then we need to Stop it! This means we need to show the World that this isn't the way we supposed to go. Earthlings need to look up to the stars, and we need to find intelligent life elsewhere, and we can only do this if we live in peace. Only peace insures that our species has the opportunity to evolve in the necessary way. And that might go quickly, if only we can stop the current nonsense in the World. The only way for us to survive is by development and thus we need to banish war, banish hate and banish distrust on our planet. By development, we can collectively go where no-one has gone before and thus we must act now. Save us by dropping your weapons and going home, show each-other the respect we deserve and go in peace. In order for us to develop ourselves optimal is by disarming ourselves collectively. From that point on we must make sure that war doesn't happen again on Earth so that we can maximize our personal and spiritual development. And I consider that a big stepping-stone into a wonderful bright future for planet Earth.

How can basic income help change our World now?

Giving away free money as a government is something many of society object to. But people do not realize that basic income has many advantages on society which do weigh against the cost of it. Especially those in need, such as the homeless, poor, and others in hardship do have rights as well in getting the best help there is. And this kind of help easily can be given through a basic income for the needy. How do I think basic income must be used to help the less fortunate ones and why is it for society important to prioritize in how we are spending our budget?

What is basic income?

A basis income means the following: "Universal basic income (UBI) is a government program in which every adult citizen receives a set amount of money regularly" (lit.1). This money is free and not taxed, and it is unconditionally. This means people don't have to prove anything to get it and there are no strings attached to it as well. Basic income has been tested in many places (such as in Finland lit.2) where people got a standard income every month, without the need to work or any pressure on it as well. And if one would find work or get income, then that wouldn't have any effect on their basic income. It has helped to stabilize peoples health (as they are less stressed about work, money and need to use help less), it has helped to minimize criminalization, it stimulates local consumption as people buy more in their area and it reduces the amount of people sleeping on the streets as well. The overall impression was that basic income helps society in many ways and thus the cost of it weighs against the benefits. So these are important lessons to take into account, as it improves our general well-being in many ways.

Hardship and difficult times

If basic income would be implemented now right away for everybody, then that would have big financial consequences. But as said, it has many benefits as well. I can see that there might be problems implementing it for everybody right now. But that doesn't mean we cannot use it for those who actually are in need for it. There are many people who find it hard to get around during these financial uncertain times, there are a lot of poor people and consequently there are many people roofless or homeless. And not everybody wants to sleep in a shelter as for many it isn't considered as a safe place. So how can basic income be used to solve the problems for the poor and homeless?

Two wrong decisions and you can be homeless

Many people have debts and their income is needed to finance their spending. So if one gets into financial problems due to health-problems, relationship troubles, divorce, accidents, overspending and so on, then one can get homeless very quickly. You might not see it now, while you have your life settled, but even you can get into such problems that you end up on the streets. And life on the streets isn't a happy place, as you can imagine. One is cold, miserable, hungry and people ignore you completely just like you are worth nothing. Just by making two wrong decisions and you can end up on the streets as well. So from this point of perspective it is wise to learn from those who already are homeless, and try to help them as well. It isn't their fault they end up in this situation as things simply happen. And this can happen to you as well!

How do I think basic income should be used now?

We most likely cannot put basic income in place for everyone now, but we for sure can implement it for those in need. There are many that are poor, homeless, in distress in any way and do need help. In my opinion it is the decent way to act for those who haven't any problems in life. Helping others is what we need to do and basic income is a strong instrument that can be used to lift others out of their sorrow. After helping the homeless and poor with basic income, in time it gradually can expand by including other groups of society. Think about those who do have income, people with health problems, others with basic living hardship, and can barely come around with their money. By lifting up their living standards giving a basic income, they don't have to fear for uncertainty anymore and thus can create a better life. This has many positive effects for sure on them and on society as a whole as well.

Society needs to prioritize for change

You might say, giving away free money like this is un-payable for society. If you start giving away basic income by helping those in need first, then you do what is required to help society as a whole. How good we do it as a society, depends on how good we treat and help those in need. So we don't measure how much money we make, or how far we traveled in space, but we measure it in the quality of life of the most needy ones. This must be the primary method to measure if humans really have compassion for others. Now there are laws that forbid people to be homeless or sleep on the streets, but we should make laws about forbidding people not to help others instead. And if society isn't in order yet, then there is no need to invest billions in going into space or on the military as we can not even care for those on Earth. It means that society needs to prioritize and decide what is really important for our species as a whole. And basic income is a necessary means to an end in preparing this World for the next step in our evolvement.

Can mankind learn from its mistakes and are you complicit?

If one makes a mistake, then one is supposed to learn from it as well. But is that actually going on in this World. Do we learn from our mistakes? That is a good question. It seems like that things happening in this World are taken for granted and consequences are swallowed without any argument. People don't seem to care about what is going on and that can end in an awful and painful situation. If the World doesn't learn from its mistakes and repeats it, then we are doomed to fail as a society. Can mankind learn from its mistakes or is this how far we can get?

War after war

Both World Wars have ended in millions of deaths, but the second World-war has ended by using nuclear bombs. From that point on Earth has lived in a status quo with constant wars being fought in far places creating much problems, mayhem and disturbance. Even you will feel the consequences of the latest War happening and it doesn't look like it will end nicely. The chance is high that mankind will repeat it's mistakes again, by using nuclear mass-destruction weaponry on its own citizens.

One time isn't a mistake, but ...

A mistake is a mistake, only if it happens once. If a mistake happens twice then it must be considered a decision. This as people need to learn from one's mistakes so that it doesn't happen again. And luckily till this day nuclear weapons haven't been used in order to destroy one and another (expect for testing it). But if at the end of the last war we use nuclear weapons again, then we signal that we haven't learned from what has happened at the end of WWII. Ending WWII with nuclear bombs must be seen as a mistake as we can not understand what consequences these weaponry can have. But if we start using it again, then we are all complicit.

Are we the people complicit?

People who push the button, people who work for that army and people who decide on what happens must be complicit of the things happening. Wars are fought out because people at the top decide it has to be done that way. So they obviously are complicit in it. But that doesn't give all other people a clean sheet. If you know that this seems to be happening, then you ought to do something about it as well. Change the World and stop this foolishness! If we know that something is going to happen, but we do nothing about it then we are complicit as well. Doing nothing when you actually should do something is one of the Seven Deadly Sins aka Sloth. Just by looking at the sideline whilst others are fighting and you can do something about it, means that you are complicit. So then we need to do something as well about this current situation in the World. And you can help.

What can you do for mankind?

We need to show that there is another way in ending this bad situation on Earth. Compassion, understanding, love and hope should be the four cornerstones on which our future must be build. And thus we must change and you can change by doing the right thing. This can be in your personal life by helping those in need or just giving a smile, but it can also be done by spreading the Word for Change. We need to put the Kind back into Mankind as without the kind part only man remains. So we need to help one and another, and we need to change collectively. But as the World situation seems to be very urgent, then we need to act quickly and now. We need to stand up and stand out by making our position clear that we want Change in this World and that we want it now. Without change our World is doomed and thus the only hope we have is by giving an alternative message to the World. Spreading the good Word is necessary so that you and I can enjoy a brighter future by Changing this World now.

How can Mankind Change for the better?

We want to have a peaceful World, and we want to reach for the Stars. But before we can reach for the stars, we need to change this place that we are living in first. There are unmistakably many things wrong with this World and everyone can see it by just looking at the news. But also how people treat each-other is a big sign on some of the essential problems of this system. Mankind doesn't seem to be kind anymore, and that has to Change as time seems to be running out. Why is it important for people to change now, and how must mankind change for the better?

Time is running out

From about 2008 and on everything on Earth seems to have become strange and weird with currently crises accumulating into a maximum. Obviously that maximum is almost here and it can only end in destruction... The only option that we have is to change ourselves, so that this maximum point never happens. Time is running out as we speak and thus we need to act quickly. Change can be quick if everyone understands that there is an end-point in this time-frame. So how do we do that and why is it necessary?

Signaling

It looks like that mankind can not change for itself, as people do not see there is a higher reason for change. But if we want to reach for the stars in our galaxy, and aliens actually are out there then we should show them that we come in peace. And the best way to show this is by signaling. This signaling must start on our planet already, as they will know what we are all about just by scanning our minds. So how do we signal? We start by changing ourselves, by doing the right thing.

Nuclear weaponry

The biggest concern from an Alien point of view is the nuclear arsenal that we possess and the power that it gives us. But it is considered as a very bad thing, as nuclear weaponry are used for mass-destruction. If our species is capable of destroying our own citizens with these kinds of weapons, then we most certainly can destroy aliens in the same way. By disarming all our nuclear weapons, we signal that we have changed and that we come in peace. It is the biggest and probably the only correct signal that we can give, so that aliens know that we have changed. By doing this we can survive the current maximization of crises, and it most likely is the only way.

Respect

Every person on this planet, in essential is the same. We all have a brain, all have a heart and thus we are the same. We should respect one and another, smile and be kind. But this is a quality that only the few have. If someone needs our help, then we should give a helping hand. But in most cases people just walk past the homeless or poor person in disrespect. This as one seems to be feeling much better than the other. The same goes with the disrespect the rich seem to show the poor, and this inequality seems to be growing constantly. This is the opposite of the natural state a good society should be working on. Equality and the same chances for everyone are essential in creating a better society.

Kindness

Being kind is necessary for the continuity of a society. It is the only way for mankind to survive and thus we must focus on this quality and its development. Being kind, having respect, being nice to everyone is essential and for this mankind needs to change. Without kindness mankind will be doomed. And this is exactly what this World is about. The maximization of crises is only a signal to us to show that time is running out, unless we change for the better by being kind. Having kindness towards everybody is important, as you do not know what someone else is going through. Your respect of disrespect through your actions or spoken word can make or break a person's day. So what you think, say or do influences other people greatly. Being kind is the only way for mankind to evolve into a better species.

Treat others like you want to be treated

Everyone wants to be treated well, good and nice. This is a quality that you should try to give in all situations, even if others don't do it. Eventually they will change for the better. By doing good to others, results in them getting into a better emotional state which leads to them showing a better attitude. So being good is just like a droplet in water. It starts as a single droplet with influence circles around it. But when another person picks up this positivity then they can influence others in a positive way as well. If you want others to treat you nice, then you should start to treat others nice as well. It is a give and take situation. But if no-one gives, then no-one takes. You can change this, start by being nice and start by noticing people in need or help. With a small gesture, a talk or a smile you can have influence on someone's life in a positive way.
